Letters of Recommendation

Submitting Letters of Recommendation Via CollegeNet

You're at this page because someone asked you to submit a letter of recommendation for them using the CollegeNet web site and it's not clear how to do that. The approach you take will be slightly different based on whether or not you have already established a CollegeNet account. Follow one of the scenarios below for clarification

You have never created an account with CollegeNet

You received an e-mail from CollegeNet telling you that you were listed as a reference. The e-mail provided a link to take you to the CollegeNet login page. (Click here to see an example of that page.) If you still have that e-mail, click on the link and then click on the button in the yellow box that reads: "Create one now..." This will walk you through the steps for creating a new account. You need to create an account in order to submit the letter of recommendation.

You have already created an account with CollegeNet

If you have already created an account and would like to begin or continue working on a letter, and if you have the e-mail link handy, just click on the link. This will take you to the CollegeNet login page, where your e-mail address should appear. (Click here to see an example of that page.) Enter your password, click "login", and you're on your way.

If you have an account, but don't have the e-mail with the link, go to the CollegeNet login page and enter your e-mail and password. This should take you to the letters page.

Other things to know...

The CollegeNet letters of recommendation site recognizes you based on your e-mail address. If you use multiple addresses, you need to keep track of which password goes with which e-mail address. You also need to note the e-mail address to which the original request was sent. This is the address you need to use when logging in.

If someone tells you they have requested a letter from you and they have not received it yet, ask them to go into "their" CollegeNet account and send a reminder. Make sure you both know the e-mail address to which the reminder is being sent.

Another option

If you would prefer to send a written letter of recommendation, please do so. We'd like to know how you would rank the student on personal initiative, intellectual curiousity, oral and written communication, creativity, leadership, integrity, concern for others, respect for differences, and emotional maturity. Do you think the student has average, very good, outstanding, or exceptional abilities in these areas? How long you have known this student, and what have you taught them?

Include the student's name, and your contact information. Mail your letter to The Honors College, PO Box 642012, Pullman, WA 99164-2012, or email it to honors@wsu.edu. Thank you.
